Women's Volleyball Drops Five-Set Battle Against St. Francis Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Women's volleyball (8-19, 3-10 NEC) fell to NEC opponent St. Francis Brooklyn (9-19, 5-8 NEC) in five sets at the Genovesi Center on Friday.

  • Three Knights hit over a .300 average including graduate student Miriam Stingl who led FDU with 19 kills and a block for 19.5 points. Graduate student Alix Christie followed with 12 kills and a pair of blocks for 13.5 points. On a .438 clip, senior Brooke Stevens deposited seven kills and three blocks for 8.5 points.
  • Sophomore Madisyn Beirne posted a double-double on the night, contributing 11 kills, 13 digs, a service ace and block for 12.5 points.
  • Exchange student Pauline Giordano notched a career-high with 51 assists.
  • Senior Allegra Rivas anchored FDU's defense with 23 digs.
How it Happened
  • The Terriers jumped out to an early lead in the first set and maintained the momentum throughout. Unable to close the gap, the Knights dropped the set 25-15.
  • Set two began in a tight battle until a 6-1 run by the Knights forced an FDU edge. The Terriers responded with a series of kills of their own to get within a one-point deficit. With 17 kills on a .310 clip, FDU held St. Francis Brooklyn 25-23.
  • With the score leveled at five in the third set, the Terriers went on a 6-1 run to take the advantage. St. Francis Brooklyn continued to dominate on offense with 18 kills, topping the Knights 25-21.
  • The Knights established a lead early in set four, forcing a Terrier timeout with a solo block by Christie. FDU continued to nudge out St. Francis Brooklyn with an eight-point run, but the Terriers responded with a series of kills of their own. Trading points to the end, the Knights took the set 25-22.
  • Stingl came out with five kills in the final set as FDU found themselves in a 12-6 deficit. A final pair of kills by the Terriers closed the match, 15-7.

Next Up
The Knights will close their season in Brooklyn tomorrow as they take on LIU at 4 p.m. at the Steinberg Wellness Center.
