Women's Volleyball Stuns Central Connecticut

HACKENSACK, N.J. - Women's volleyball (8-17, 3-8 NEC) defeated NEC opponent Central Connecticut (8-15, 5-6 NEC) in four sets at the Rothman Center on Friday.

Inside the Box Score

  • On a .393 clip, graduate student Miriam Stingl paced the Knights with 12 kills. Senior Sophia Spiridonakos followed with 11 kills of her own, along with two service aces and a block for 13.5 points.

  • Exchange student Pauline Giordano posted a double-double on the night, anchoring FDU with 33 assists and 12 digs. With three blocks and two kills, Giordano contributed to the Knights' cause on both sides of the ball.

  • Hitting a .625 average, senior Brooke Stevens recorded five kills along with a pair of solo blocks.

How it Happened

  • The Knights jumped into control early in set one on a six-point run. On a .524 clip, the Knights sustained the momentum, dropping the Blue Devils 25-16.

  • In set two the Knights posted 12 kills, hitting a .310 average as a team. FDU took an early 7-3 lead following a pair of kills off assists by Giordano. The Blue Devils responded with a series of attacks to get within a point of the Knights and force an FDU timeout. A final kill by Spiridonakos closed the set in favor of the Knights, 25-22.

  • CCSU found a rhythm on offense in the third set, taking an early five-point advantage. With 14 kills, the Blue Devils took the third set 25-17.

  • The final set was a back-and-forth affair until a five-point run with a service ace by Rivas broke open an FDU lead. The Blue Devils trailed close behind, but a final attack by Stingl sealed the set for the Knights, defeating CCSU 25-22.

Thoughts from Coach France

"The Knights played inspired volleyball tonight against the Blue Devils. We rode the arm of Miriam with defensive help from Allegra and Pauline. A solid win for our program as we move forward with our season."
