HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team (2-3, 0-0 NEC) made it two in a row with their first win at home of the season as they took down the NJIT Highlanders (3-3, 0-0 Am. East), 65-55.
How it Happened
- The Knights were locked in a tight battle with NJIT early, ending the first quarter level at 14 a piece, and ultimately ending the half down a pair.
- FDU made their waves in the third quarter, where they would go on a 15-4 run, capped by an Aniya Bell three-pointer, to push them ahead 40-35 with 2:07 left in the period – a lead they would never relinquish.
- The Knights finished the quarter with an exclamation point. Bell scored a layup with 18 seconds left, and then with five seconds remained Chloe Wilson would add to her career day with a steal and score at the buzzer, putting the Knights up by eight entering the fourth quarter.
- A 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter ensured smooth sailing for the Knights for the remainder of the game, and the Knights would get to push their lead into double digits, where it would stay for the finish of the game.
Inside the Box Score
- Chloe Wilson was the top scorer on the day with a career-high in points, scoring 24 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the floor.
- Joining Wilson as a double-figure scorer was Aniya Bell, who added 11 points along with a team-high eight rebounds.
- Finishing not far off from double-figures were Madison Stanley and Rachael Niles, who both chipped in nine points for the Knights, and Celia Carbonell, who scored eight points in her first start of the season.
Coach Szumilo's Thoughts
"[This was] another great defensive effort. We needed to step up defensively in the second half, and we did just that. I thought Madison was very solid on both ends as she continues to get more comfortable with each game."
"I thought end of the third quarter and the fourth quarter were spectacular where our defensive stops turned into points on the offensive end. It was great to see Chloe be able to do what she did on the offensive end, and Aniya also stepped up in a big way off the bench."
What's Next
The Knights will enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday before hitting the road for a game with Manhattan on Sunday, November 28, at 2 p.m. The game will air live on ESPN+.
