SOMERSET, N.J. - The Northeast Conference announced Tuesday its 2021-22 basketball television package as part of agreements the league has with the ESPN family of networks, SNY, MASN and CBS Sports Network. Included in the 19 regular season broadcasts are four FDU matchups, split evenly between the men's and women's teams, beginning on January 6.
"Having the ability to showcase our student-athletes and University on the national stage is one of the great advantages of being located in the New York Metropolitan Area and with thanks to the work of the Northeast Conference, we're able to provide this opportunity for our teams, alumni and families," remarked Director of Athletics
Bradford Hurlbut. "Being featured in four televised games once again this year will be an incredible experience for the Knights' men's and women's basketball teams. Â I know we're all very excited for the start of league play next month!"
First on the docket is men's basketball's conference home opener with Merrimack, head coach
Greg Herenda's alma mater, on Thursday, January 6, at 7 p.m. from Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center which will be carried nationally on ESPN3 and regionally on SNY, the home of the New York Mets and New York Jets. FDU last played the Warriors on the hardwood in Hackensack back in February 2020 which ended with a narrow win for Merrimack, 57-53.
Moving towards the end of the month, women's basketball takes center stage at Mount St. Mary's on Thursday, January 27, live on ESPNU at 5 p.m. in a much-awaited matchup of the two sides which will come after their first meeting of the season, scheduled for Wednesday, December 29, on the banks of the Hackensack. The Burgundy and Blue have faced the Mount in the previous two NEC tournament semifinals, though the meeting in the 2019-20 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
Angelika Szumilo's squad is 2-1 in their last three regular season contests against the Mountaineers.
In February, each of the Knights' basketball programs will appear on ESPN+ with men's basketball traveling to Brooklyn for a matchup with the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers on Thursday, February 3, at 7 p.m. and the women welcoming Bryant to campus on Saturday, February 19, at 2 p.m.
The four televised games are the most for the Knights in conference action since the 2019-20 season when the teams were featured in a combined four telecasts.
