Women’s Soccer Draws at St. Francis Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team (8-5-3, 5-2-1 NEC) held a clean sheet, but were held goalless themselves, in a scrappy 0-0 draw against St. Francis Brooklyn (5-6-6, 3-3-3 NEC).

How it Happened

  • The Knights outshot the Terriers 8-6 in the first half, but neither side could find a true opportunity to break open the match.
  • Malene Nielsen made an important save on a free kick in the 26', and it would not be her last of the match.
  • The sides continued to battle in the second half, ultimately needing to head into overtime to settle things.
  • Nielsen would make another important save off of a free kick in the 92', which ultimately proved to be vital in earning the Knights a point on the road.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Knights earned narrow edges in shots (16 to 14), shots on goals (seven to six), and corner kicks (nine to eight), and were on the receiving end of eight more fouls than they committed.
  • Aitana Martínez-Montoya and Madelyn Robbins both took a team-high (and tied for game-high) four shots over the course of the match. Martínez-Montoya put three of hers on target, while Robbins put two on frame.
  • It was an exciting moment for Lea Egner who made her first appearance since March 9, 2021, following an injury cutting her 2020-21 season short. She was involved in 11 minutes of action.

Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"We knew it was going to be a tough game. St. Francis Brooklyn has played well throughout their entire season. I felt we allowed them to dictate control of the ball and that we were just not as dangerous as we normally are."

What's Next
The Knights return home for their make-up date against Mount St. Mary's on Thursday, October 28, at 4 p.m.
