Women’s Soccer Falls to Bryant

TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team (8-5-2, 5-2-0 NEC) suffered just their second loss of the conference season at the hands of the Bryant Bulldogs (7-8-0, 5-3-0 NEC) by a score of 1-0.

How it Happened

  • The Knights had a golden chance early in the 6', with a beautiful through-ball played to Aitana Martínez-Montoya, who just barely missed a goal with a shot grazing the bar.
  • In the 28', Franziska Theus hit the bar on a well-struck long-distance effort, but it was cleared to safety by Bryant.
  • It was ultimately Bryant who found the breakthrough with a goal in the 71'.
  • The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Bulldogs at the final whistle.

Inside the Box Score

  • FDU outshot the Bulldogs 11-7 over the match, held the advantage in corner kicks by a 5-3 margin, and put four shots on goal to Bryant's three.
  • Aitana Martínez-Montoya attempted three shots over the match, marking the sixth time in her last seven matches where she has attempted three or more over the match.
  • Gina Steiner and Madelyn Robbins both attempted multiple shots, while Kiomy Luperon and Isabelle Udovc forced saves out of the Bryant keeper.

Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"We just have to find a way to be more aggressive. We didn't play bad soccer today, but we were not dangerous at all. I felt we were pretty good in the first half, the wind was pretty strongly against us, and we felt we controlled play in the first half. But then I thought our second half was really flat."

"It's a tough stretch. We were hoping to cap it off with a 4-0 record, it didn't happen, so we'll just have to get a little rest and recovery and try and be ready for St. Francis Brooklyn next."

What's Next
The Knights venture back onto the road for their final road contest of the season, where they will take on St. Francis Brooklyn at 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 24. The match will be streamed live on NEC Front Row.
