Scouting the Seahawks
Wagner enter this match with a recent wave of momentum in NEC play. Despite a 2-0 loss on the weekend to out of conference foe Iona, they have earned victories in their last two conference matches – a 3-0 victory over, and a 2-1 overtime victory at Bryant. Wagner are led by Madison Carr, a Towson University transfer who opened the season with four goals in her first three matches, and currently sits tied for second in the NEC in goals scored with six. Carr is followed behind by Annie White, who has three goals and leads the Seahawks in minutes played. The Seahawks have attacking firepower in spades, with all five of their victories seeing them score multiple goals, and three of those seeing the Seahawks score three or more goals.
Scouting the Knights
The Knights will be entering this match hot off the heels of a pair of important victories. First was a victory over Sacred Heart on the road, winning by a score of 2-0 thanks to an Aitana Martínez-Montoya brace. That was followed by another thrilling win over a top-tier team in a 2-1 home win over Central Connecticut State. Martínez-Montoya scored her fifth goal of conference play in as many games, and her team-leading sixth, and Christa Waterman gave the team the victory with her headed goal in the 74'. Gina Steiner leads the team in assists with three, including one on the Martínez-Montoya goal against CCSU. She is second in the team in shots on goal with eleven, she has provided a goal, and she is just one of four Knights to have logged over 1,000 minutes this season to this point. The Knights have conceded just one goal over their four conference victories, and they currently sit top of the league with twelve points, putting them level with CCSU.
Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"This year the NEC is so competitive and close you have to be ready for each and every game. Wagner is no different. They have been getting stronger as the year as moves on and are a dangerous team who have done very well on set pieces. We have to be ready to fight and figure out a way to get the result we are looking for."
