"Wow, what a day," head coach
Mike LoPresti said. "It's a record breaking one for our program for sure. For the majority of the season, we have competed on challenging patterns and older lane surfaces which have made it difficult for our team to score well. Now, for the second straight weekend, the lanes were extremely forgiving, and boy were we able to take advantage of it today. Everything clicked for Amanda today, it's been awhile for our program that we have had someone that locked in for all five matches in one day. Cam and Aimee were also stellar. They gave us a 1-2-3 at the top of our lineup that made us a tough team to beat."
FDU started the day with a 982-921 win over Bloomfield, as Chrzanowski led the team with a pinfall of 236 and Sherman scored a game of 202. Hart chipped in a 190 and Henderson topped out a 181, with Spring adding a 173 to round out the FDU lineup.
Four of the five Knights then scored above 220 in a 1136-1015 victory over no. 23 Wilmington. Spring bowled a 257 to lead the Knights, with Chrzanowski (237), Sherman (225) and Henderson (224) each tallying scores that beat four of the five Wilmington pinsetters. Hart finished out the game by recording a 193 to help build on FDU's total.
Chrzanowski and Spring each then scored their best games of the day to help the Knights defeat no. 22 Monmouth, 1208-1064. The two FDU pinsetters each tallied game scores of 278, and Sherman also bowled her best individual game of the day with a score of 257. Henderson also played a strong game with a 213, and Hart contributed a 182 to the FDU scorecard.
All five FDU bowlers compiled game scores of over 200 in their final 20 frames, leading to big victories over Caldwell, 1190-951, and NEC rival St. Francis Brooklyn, 1202-996. Chrzanowski finished out her day with scores of 245 vs. Caldwell and 267 vs. St. Francis, and Henderson matched her teammate's score in the St. Francis Brooklyn contest to help lead the Knights. Hart saved her two best games for last, with scores of 258 and 255, respectively, while Spring (234) and Sherman (249) both tallied higher pinfalls in the Caldwell match than in the St. Francis match (206 and 207, respectively).
The Knights will play two Baker five-game qualifying matches Sunday morning to help determine the seeding for the two-round bracket matches in the afternoon. If the Knights hold their place, they will be going for the tournament title, with Monmouth as the current no. 2 team in the standings with a pinfall of 5,213 and a 208.5 per game average. Competition on Sunday is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
"Our challenge is to recreate what we did today during tomorrow's matches, and with the lanes playing so high scoring, any team can string strikes with the best of them," LoPresti said.
