MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team dropped its first two games at Kansas State, 8-1 and 12-1 on Friday at Tointon Family Stadium.
The Knights will close out their three-game series with the Wildcats tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. (EST).
Game 1: Kansas State 8, FDU 1
After tying the game at 1-1 in the third inning, the Knights were unable to strike again against the Wildcats in Friday's opener.
In total, the Burgundy and Blue logged five hits – two of which came off of the bat of sophomore
Tom Ruscitti, who finished 2-for-4 in the loss.
Sophomore right-hander
Phillip Romeo (0-1) took the ball for the Knights and held the Wildcats to one run over the first two frames. Trailing 1-0, the Knights used their aggressive baserunning to scratch across a run. Freshman shortstop
Jake Ellowitz drew a leadoff walk and moved into scoring position after the next batter, classmate
Kyle Huber, also drew a free pass.
Ellowitz swiped third base and the Wildcats' catcher's throw sailed away, which allowed the Knights freshman to trot home with the team's first run. Unfortunately for the Burgundy and Blue, their bats went cold.
In the home half of the third, the Wildcats nabbed the lead for good after Dylan Phillips doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly.
Romeo's final line was 3.2 innings, four earned runs, six hits and two strikeouts before junior
Chris Quijano came on in relief. Quijano surrendered three runs across three innings.
Carson Seymour (1-2) earned the win for the Wildcats by tossing six innings allowing one unearned run and striking out seven Knights.
Game 2: Kansas State 12, FDU 1
The Knights were limited to three hits in game two on Saturday as
Nate Brodsky,
Brad Levinson and
Tony Socci each recorded a knock in the loss.
Brodsky was responsible for the team's run after he delivered a double down the right field line in the sixth. Levinson followed with a single and then Brodsky scored on a fielding error by the Wildcats' center fielder.
After a pair of scoreless frames, the Wildcats netted one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Trailing 3-1, in the seventh, the Knights were unable to hold down the home team's offense as the Wildcats registered three runs in the seventh and six in the eighth to break the game open.
Sophomore
Joey Kosowsky (1-2) started for the Knights and went 3.2 innings, allowing two earned and registering five strikeouts.
