No. 17 Bowling To Compete In Monmouth Hawk Flight Invite

TEANECK, N.J. – The 17th-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team travels to the site of the Northeast Conference Championships to take part in the Monmouth Hawk Flight Invite this weekend in Hamilton, N.J.

TOURNAMENT INFO
The Knights are competing in a 12-team tournament hosted by Monmouth at Hamilton Lanes, where they will later be going to play in the NEC Championships March 20-22. FDU is one of seven ranked teams in a tournament field that also includes no. 2 Sam Houston State, no. 4 Vanderbilt, no. 10 Duquesne, no. 22 Monmouth, no. 24 Wilmington and no. 25 LIU. Teams will play five Baker team total pin fall matches on Friday beginning at 11 a.m., then continue the tournament with five traditional team matches on Saturday before playing a final traditional match and two Baker best four-of-seven playoff bracket matches on Sunday. The top-four teams in the qualifier standings will be able to compete for the event title in the Baker bracket on Sunday.

KNIGHTS SCHEDULE
FDU will face St. Francis Brooklyn, LIU, Wilmington, Felician and host Monmouth on Friday in Baker matches. The Knights then take on Sam Houston State, Caldwell, Vanderbilt, Mercyhurst and New Jersey City on Sunday before wrapping up traditional team match play against Duquesne on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT
The Knights (49-33) wrapped up their last NEC regular season meet this past weekend with four straight victories over conference rivals Duquesne, LIU, no. 14 Mount St. Mary's and Saint Francis U. The wins helped FDU clinch a berth into the NEC Tournament for a league-record 12th straight year, with the Knights holding fourth place in the standings with its 9-9 NEC record. The Knights will be playing three of the four teams it beat this past weekend at the NEC Championships, with its first match against fifth-seed Mount on Friday, March 20, determining who will move on to the main bracket.

PRIME PERFORMER
Junior Aimee Sherman was a big reason for the Knights' strong finish at last weekend's NEC Meet and was named a NEC Prime Performer this week. Sherman led FDU with a 20.76 frame average and filled 89.8 percent of her 59 frames over the six matches. She started in all four of FDU's victories, including the three straight the Knights won on Sunday over LIU, Mount and SFU that sealed FDU's tournament bid. The junior racked up a team-high 28 strikes and doubled eight times over the two-day event while also converting 25 of 31 spare attempts.

UP NEXT
FDU competes again the following weekend, co-hosting the Northeast Roundup in Wilmington, Del., on March 7-8 at Bowlerama as its final team tune-up before the NEC Championships.
