Mujay Mambu and
Victoria Demmene each finished with seven kills but the Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball dropped its second match of the Knights Fall Classic, 25-21, 25-14, 25-18 to Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon.
In addition to Mambu and Demmene, junior setter
McKenna Setterlund handed out 19 assists to go along with a career-high four blocks.
Kaleigh Oates paced the Bobcats (3-2) with 15 kills and four blocks, while Aryanah Diaz logged a double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs.
Trailing 24-17 in the opening set, the Knights nearly mounted an impressive comeback as sophomore
Sophia Spiridonakos served five straight points – including three services aces – but the Bobcats survived and took a 1-0 match lead.
In the second set, the Bobcats established a 7-2 edge before the Burgundy and Blue fought back to tie the frame at 9-9. Demmene tallied a pair of kills for the Knights over that stretch however, the Bobcats would pull away by scoring nine of the next 11 points and grabbed a 2-0 match lead.
An ace by Setterlund and kill by Mambu propelled the Knights to a 4-0 lead in the final frame before the Bobcats stormed back with five straight points of their own. Later in the set, with one-point edge, the Bobcats ran off on another spurt – this time with seven straight tallies – as they solidified their cushion and closed out the match.
The Knights return to the court at 5:30 p.m. against NJIT in the final contest of the weekend.
