ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team wrapped up its three days of competition at Navy's Joe Hunt Invite on Sunday by winning eight of 10 completed matches.
FDU redshirt junior
Niclas Pietsch recorded the best singles finish for the Knights, placing second in the Green Flight. Pietsch defeated Navy's Conners O'Brien, 6-2, 7-6 (3) to earn his way to the flight title match, but he could not earn a second victory over a Navy foe, falling to Christian Pumpelly 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 in a close final.
The Knights won all their doubles matches completed on the final day. Freshman
Andrei Oprisor and junior
Youssef Sader earned a 6-2 victory over a Mary Washington duo, and junior
Eduardo Cabral teamed with sophomore
Mehdi Dhouib to record a 6-2 win over a Navy pairing.
Oprisor, Cabral and Dhouib also notched a singles win in the final day. Oprisor only dropped one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over St. Bonaventure's Andres Vergara, while Cabral outdueled Navy's Andres Ballesteros in a 7-5, 6-2 match win. Dhouib bounced back from an earlier loss to overcome Youngstown State's Erik Gran in a 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory.
Juniors
Andris Gudins and
Moric Budinszky also won in singles, with Gudins defeating Mary Washington's Cole Tecce 6-2, 6-0, and Budinszky dispatching St. Bonaventure's Lukas Linden Malmberg in a 6-3, 3-6, 10-2 victory.
FDU next takes to the court on Saturday, October 5, when it starts the Fordham Invite, which continues through Sunday, October 6.

The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team finished out round robin play at the Joe Hunt Invite hosted by Navy on Saturday.
Sophomore
Mehdi Dhouib and junior
Niclas Pietsch led the Knights in singles, with both players winning two singles matches. Dhouib finished with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win over Coppin State's Sam Scala-McNeill, and he also won the first set against Mary Washington's Nicholas Spera, 6-3, and was winning the second set 3-0 when Spera retired.
Pietsch earned a straight-set win over Jacob Quijano of Mary Washington, 6-2, 6-4, and then was victorious in a three-set battle with Luke Maxwell of George Mason, finishing with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory.
Three more Knights also earned singles wins on Saturday. Senior
Ivan Solans Diaz picked up a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Temple's Thibault Frumholz, and junior
Youssef Sader won against Mary Washington's Grant Perry, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Sader, however, lost his unbeaten singles record despite playing valiantly against George Washington's Michael Barsky. He took the first set, 7-5, and then fell in close tiebreakers in the second set and the final superset, falling 6-7 (3), 6-7 (6).
Junior
Maciej Autuch also came away with a singles win, defeating Sergui Medesan of Coppin State, 6-2, 7-6 (6).
Dhouib and junior
Eduardo Cabral gained FDU's lone doubles victory of the day, a 6-3 win over a Morgan State duo. The Burgundy and Blue pairing of Pietsch and Solans Diaz fell in two close matches, 5-7 against a Richmond duo and 6-7 (7) versus Mary Washington adversaries. The Knights were scheduled to play more doubles matches, but many ended in walkovers.

Knights junior
Eduardo Cabral won all three matches he played in the first day of competition. He teamed up with sophomore
Mehdi Dhouib to win a doubles match, 7-6 (0) over a Christopher Newport duo, then followed up the doubles victory with back-to-back singles wins. Cabral won in straight sets over Joseph Blakeley of St. Bonaventure, 6-1, 7-5, and then battled back from a first-set loss to win the next two sets, 6-2, 6-1, and take the match against Rami Alkhafaji of George Mason.
Freshman
Andrei Oprisor also claimed two singles triumphs for the Knights. He also battled back from down a set to win his match over Coppin State's Vasco Belunade, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-4. The freshman also dispatched Youngstown State's Pol Virgili Blanco, 7-5, 6-3.
Junior
Moric Budinszky dropped a close three-set singles battle to Navy's Reilly Wilson, falling in the first set on a tiebreaker before rallying back to take the next set, 6-4, before being edged in the final set, 3-6, to end the match.

Niclas Pietsch earned a 6-3 victory over a Temple pairing.
