Women's Soccer Prepared for Road Contests Against Hofstra and Binghamton

TEANECK, N.J.- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team is set to play non-conference road matches against Hofstra and Binghamton this week. The Knights will take on Hofstra on Thursday night with a 7 p.m. kickoff time in Hempstead, N.Y. FDU will then travel to Binghamton on Sunday afternoon and faceoff against the Bearcats at 1 p.m.

The Burgundy and Blue are currently 1-2-3 overall and are 0-0-1 in road contests. The Knights have played three home, one road, and two neutral site matches to this point in the season. FDU's first road contest was played on Sunday when they faced William & Mary to a 1-1 draw.

Senior goalkeeper Amanda Fitzgerald was named NEC Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league on September 10th. The Knights' netminder recorded 10 saves in the Knights two contests against Monmouth and William & Mary. Fitzgerald recorded multiple crucial saves in both games that kept FDU in the contest. Fitzgerald currently owns a season goals allowed average of 1.11 and has recorded 29 saves.

The Knights have played in low scoring affairs over their past four contests as they have played in three draws and only allowed three goals. The defense led by seniors Samantha Roff, Julia Shea, and Jackson Bennett who have played in all six contests for the Knights. Each of them play an aggressive style on the back end and keep the ball in front of them. The Burgundy and Blue also has seen positive strides defensively from sophomores Paula Ruess, Christa Waterman, and Noam Kedem who have provided quality minutes. The Knights have only allowed an average of 1.33 goals per night.

FDU's offense has averaged 1.50 goals per game in the first six contests of the year, but the Knights have certainly created a quality amount of opportunities. The Burgundy and Blue have rifled off an average of 16.8 shots per night and have placed an average of seven per game on goal.  The Knights have also created 28 corner kick opportunities on the season.

Freshman Maja Skansberg and junior Sofia Albertsson are tied for the team lead in points with four apiece. The Stockholm, Sweden natives each have netted at least one goal while Skansberg has dished out two helpers. Sophomore Lea Egner also has scored a goal and recorded two assists. Seven other Knights have recorded two points on the year as the offense has spread the ball around well to one another.

The Knights played Hofstra last season at University Stadium and lost in heartbreaking fashion as they fell 2-1 in double overtime. Junior Viktoija Miseljic netted the Knights goal as she scored off a rebound from sophomore Madelyn Robbins' shot. Fitzgerald recorded seven saves in the contest for the Burgundy and Blue. Hofstra currently owns a record of 3-3 and one of those victories came over Monmouth, who the Knights played earlier in the season. The Pride's offense is led by juniors Lucy Porter who has netted six goals and Lucy Shepherd who has dished out four assists. In net, freshman Skylar Kuzmich has started all six contests and has a goals allowed average of 2.36 goals per game.

The Burgundy and Blue will then travel to Binghamton on Sunday afternoon. The two teams last met in 2015 with the Knights earning a 1-0 victory. Binghamton is 4-2 overall and one of their victories came against the NEC's St. Francis Brooklyn. The Bearcats are 2-0 at home and leaned on sophomore netminder Haylee Poltorak, who owns a goals allowed average of 1.17. Binghamton's offense has led by freshman Olivia McKnight who has 10 points with four goals and two assists.

Following the Binghamton game, the Knights will play in their first NEC contest of the year when they travel to LIU on Wednesday, September 18, at 4 p.m.
