ALBANY, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team fell 8-2 at University of Albany on Wednesday afternoon.
In the loss, freshman outfielder
Tony Socci collected both RBI for the Knights with one swing of the bat as he launched his third home run of the season. Socci finished 1-for-3 at the dish as the Knights (8-29-1) were limited to just three hits on the day.
Five Albany pitchers covered the nine innings including Hunter Torres who picked up the win by tossing two scoreless frames.
The Knights sent three pitchers to the mound but sophomore starter
Austin Crebs provided the best performance as he held the Great Danes (17-19) without a run for the first three innings before giving way to freshman
Ryan Seburn.
In the top of the first, freshman outfielder
Tom Ruscitti was hit by a pitch which set the stage for Socci's home run. Socci saw six pitches before belting the seventh over the fence to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.
Unfortunately for the Burgundy and Blue, their offense would go cold. The two-run lead would hold until the bottom of the fifth when Josh Gurnack tallied an RBI double and Travis Collins launched a three-run home run, which put the Great Danes on top for good.
The home team tacked on a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings as they solidified their lead and finalized the six-run margin of victory.
In addition to Socci,
Michael Gruber finished 1-for-3 and
Evan McDonald delivered a pinch-hit single for the Knights.
The Burgundy and Blue now return to home to host Saint Peter's on Saturday for a twinbill. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex.
