TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team dropped a non-conference tilt to Fordham 22-10 at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Seniors
Evan McDonald and
Bobby Romano each homered for the Knights (8-28-1), who allowed 20 hits to the Rams (24-18) in the loss. The game was called due to darkness at the conclusion of the eighth inning.
McDonald was responsible for two of the Knights' 10 hits on the day as he finished 2-for-2 with his sixth home run of the season, two runs scored and two RBI, while Romano launched his fifth home run of the campaign and totaled three RBI.
Matt Tarabek paced the Fordham offense by going 5-for-7 with six RBI and a pair of doubles in the victory.
Griffin Gilbert started for the Knights and allowed seven earned on eight hits in his one inning of work before giving way to relievers
Peter Theodorellis (three innings),
Phillip Romeo (three innings) and
Bobby Pigozzi (one inning).
To begin the game, the first six Rams reached base safely including five hits and a two-run home run by shortstop Jake MacKenzie. At the end of the frame, the Rams had totaled seven runs on eight hits and one error.
A solo blast by Jason Coules netted the Rams a run in the second and they tacked on six more in the fourth to establish a 14-0 lead.
The Knights broke into the scoring column in the home fourth when McDonald slugged a two-run home run over the left-field fence and chased home reigning NEC Rookie of the Week
Adam Frank in the process. Frank had reached on a single and finished 1-for-2 in the contest.
The Fordham offense tacked on four more runs in the fifth including a pair of run-scoring walks as the Knights issued 13 free passes on the afternoon.
Romano,
Tristan Plescia and
Mike Veit each knocked in run for the Burgundy and Blue in the sixth and then Romano hit his two-run blast in the seventh but the Knights trailed 19-7 at that point.
The final three runs for the Knights came in the eighth
Brad Levinson and
Tony Socci each singled in a run and
Salvatore Monticciolo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the third.
Next up for the Burgundy and Blue is a non-conference road matchup at Albany tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
