Baseball Drops Series Finale to Sacred Heart on Sunday

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team dropped the rubber game of its three-game series with Sacred Heart 12-5 at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex on Sunday afternoon.

In the loss, the Knights (4-19-1, 2-4 NEC) surrendered 14 hits to the Pioneers (8-17, 4-2 NEC), while totaling six hits of their own.

Six different Knights recorded a hit with freshmen Ryan Glowacki finishing 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Salvatore Monticciolo scoring twice in a 1-for-4 effort.

Freshman right-hander Emmanuel Corporan (0-4) took the loss, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits across his four innings of work.

The Knights knocked out Sacred Heart starter Billy O'Brien in the first inning but the Pioneers bullpen followed with 8.2 innings of one-run baseball.

Three hits including a triple by Stephen Thibault helped the Pioneers net two runs in the top of the first.

The Knights would roar back with four runs in the home half of the inning. A Monticciolo single was sandwiched by a Mike Veit walk and Adam Frank hit-by-pitch, which loaded the bases for Evan McDonald. McDonald stroked a shot to the left side of the infield, which allowed Veit to score with the team's first run.

A throwing error by Sacred Heart resulted in the second run for FDU before Glowacki put the team in front with a two-run double off the center-field fence.

The Knights' 4-2 edge would not last as the Pioneers immediately tied the game in their next turn at bat.

In the top of the fourth, the Pioneers would stake their lead by scoring five runs on three hits, highlighted by a two-run single from Danny Glendon.

A fifth-inning  groundout by McDonald would net the Knights' fifth and final run of the day, as three Pioneers relievers closed the door. John Cerrentani (1-0) earned the victory by providing the Pioneers with 4.2 innings of work. Cerrentani allowed one earned run on two hits, while striking out five.

The Knights return to action this Tuesday, April 2 when they close out their season series with Seton Hall. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex.
