Baseball Drops California Finale 5-1 to Cal Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team was unable to close its trip to the Golden State with a win as they fell 5-1 to California Baptist at Totman Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman right-hander Emmanuel Corporan made his first start for the Knights (2-7-1) and provided an effective 6.2 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits, while striking out four and walking four.

Seven Lancers (13-4) combined to limit the Knights to one run on five hits in the contest. Redshirt freshman, Adam Frank was responsible for two of the Knights' five knocks, while senior Evan McDonald registered his first home run of the campaign, which resulted in the team's lone tally.

After three and a half scoreless frames, the home team netted one run on two hits. Rory Smith singled home the run for the Lancers. In the top of the inning, the Knights had the first two men reach and advance into scoring position but CBU's Angel Delgado struck out the next three batters in order.

The Burgundy and Blue would tie things up in the sixth thanks to McDonald's solo blast, which carried over the left-center field fence. The game remained tied until the seventh when the Lancers broke things open by tallying four runs.

All four of the Lancers' runs came with two outs in the inning as Corporan retired two of the first three men to bat. A two-out single put runners on the corners and marked the end of the freshman's afternoon.

Sophomore Austin Crebs came on in relief and allowed a two-run single to the first Lancer he faced before another single resulted in the fifth and final run of the contest. Junior right-hander James Donlon pitched a scoreless ninth for the Knights, who were unable to threaten against the Lancers in their final two at bats.

The Knights return back to the east coast to play a home-and-home doubleheader with Pennsylvania this weekend. The team will travel to Philadelphia on Saturday, March 16 before hosting the Quakers for a double-dip on Sunday. First pitch is set for noon on both days.
