Box Score BETHPAGE, N.Y. – Sophomore Eduardo Cabral won in singles and the number one doubles duo earned a victory as the Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team opened its spring season with a 6-1 defeat at Hofstra Saturday night.
 
The duo of freshman Mehdi Dhouib and sophomore Andris Gudins at no. 1 doubles defeated their opponents, 6-3, to even the doubles point up at 1-1. Needing a win at the no. 2 spot, sophomore Moric Budinszky and junior Ivan Solans Diaz fought hard but ultimately fell just short, 3-6.
 
Cabral picked up his singles victory at the no. 6 position, defeating Ryan Hardin by a score of 8-3. Hofstra won each of the first four singles games that led to the overall match victory, therefore shortening the remaining two singles matches to single supersets.
 
Budinszky and sophomore Maciej Autuch each played very close matches in singles at the no. 3 and no. 4 spots, respectively, but fell in straight sets by identical scores of 5-7, 4-6.
 
At the no. 2 singles position, Gudins tied up his match with a 6-3 win in the second set, but his opponent got the upper hand in the third set to win by a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
 
Solans Diaz also competed in singles at the no. 5 spot, falling by a score of 4-8.
 
FDU next takes the courts on Saturday, February 9, when they travel to NJIT for a 11 a.m. match.
