YORK, Pa. – The 17th-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team finished out the second Northeast Conference meet of the season with a victory over St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday.
The Knights (20-17) are now 5-7 in NEC matches after closing out the two-day event with a 1-5 record and sit in fourth place in the NEC standings behind no. 10 Duquesne (10-2), LIU (9-3) and no. 19 Sacred Heart (8-4) with one more conference meet left. FDU ended the weekend with a 951-900 victory over the Terriers in the final traditional team match after dropping matches to no. 13 Mount St. Mary's and Saint Francis U earlier in the day.
Freshman
Cameron Spring and junior
Aimee Sherman started all three matches Sunday for FDU, with Sherman leading the team with a 187.7 pins per game average. Senior
Samantha Hart and junior
Jenna Henderson each made starts in two of the three matches as well.
In the victory over the Terriers, junior
Amanda Chrzanowski led the Knights with a score of 214, and Henderson bowled her best game of the weekend with a 205. Spring contributed a 194, while Sherman added a 182 to the FDU scorecard, and Hart rounded out FDU's sheet with a 156.
"After struggling for most of the weekend, coming up a few sticks short, I can't be prouder of our team for their performance during our final game," head coach
Mike LoPresti said. "They played with intensity, exhibited versatility, and were sparked by a couple of players off the bench. That's what it took to get us our only win of the weekend, and that resiliency needs to be repeated more often in the second half."
Sherman led the Knights with a 192 in their first match of the day against Mount, ending in a 939-828 defeat. Spring (169) and senior
Brianna MacLeod (153) started and finished the match for FDU as well, and freshman
Lauren Marks made her first start but was subbed out for freshman
Ashley Sham in the fifth frame with the two pinsetters combining for a 151. Henderson and Hart combined for a 163 to represent the fifth game for the Knights.
FDU then suffered a narrow defeat to Saint Francis U, dropping the match by four pins in a 845-841 loss. Sherman (189) and Hart (188) were steady for the Knights throughout, and Spring (164) and sophomore
Lanasia Neal (156) also bowled all 10 frames. Sham started as well but was replaced in the ninth frame by Chrzanowski as the Knights hoped to spark a rally in the late frames but were unable to overcome the deficit.
Chrzanowski (187.25, 13th) and Spring (183.67, 19th) finished in the top 20 in the individual standings, with Henderson (181.2), MacLeod (180.33) and Sherman (180.25) also placing inside the top 25.
The Knights now take a month-long break before restarting the season at the Northeast Winter Classic hosted by Kutztown University from January 17-19 at AMF Bristol Lanes in Croydon, Pa.
