TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team is set to conclude its intrasquad Burgundy and Blue World Series on Friday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the Naimoili Family Baseball Complex.
In his first season at the helm, head coach
Rob DiToma has introduced the new event, which consists of best-of-three, five-inning series between the two predetermined squads. Team Blue forced a game three by coming away with a 2-1 victory in last Wednesday's matchup.
Series Recap
Game 1: Burgundy 2, Blue 0
The Burgundy were led by junior right-hander
Chris Quijano, who tossed a pair of shutout innings, while striking out four, walking one and allowing a hit.
Sophomore
Tristan Plescia came on in relief and pitched a scoreless frame to pick up the save.
Offensively, sophomore catcher
George Rosales provided the key knock and broke a scoreless tie with an RBI double in the third. Rosales' two-bagger proved to be more than enough run support for the Burgundy staff. In addition to Rosales, redshirt sophomore
Jason Ortiz chipped in a pair of singles and stole a base in the victory.
Game 2: Blue 2, Burgundy 1
Freshman catcher
Colin Williams provided the offense for Team Blue by delivering a two-run single in the first inning. Williams' teammates made those two runs stand up by limiting Team Burgundy to one run over the course of the five-inning contest.
Freshman right-hander
Ryan Widmeier picked up the win by tossing a scoreless first frame and senior right-hander
James Donlon closed it out. Donlon pitched a scoreless fifth and struck out a pair to net the save.
