No. 9 Bowling Wins Four of Five in Day Two at Caldwell

ROCKAWAY, N.J. – The ninth-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team won four of five matches in the second day of the Caldwell Cougar Classic on Saturday.

The Knights (5-4) won each of their first three matches and closed out the day with a fourth victory in the traditional match format to help propel them into fourth place in the 11-team field. FDU totaled at least 900 pins in each of their five matches and totaled 4,831 pins over the course of the day, raising their team average to 185.4 pins per game which is the second-best in the tournament field.

Four of the top five individual scorers bowled for the Knights, with junior Amanda Chrzanowski leading the field by averaging 206.6 pins per game with a high score of 255. Junior Aimee Sherman (196.6), junior Jenna Henderson (194.2) and senior Samantha Hart (191.8) all also occupied a top-five spot and started all five matches for the Burgundy and Blue. Senior Brianna MacLeod also averaged 184.8 pins per game in four starts.

"I'm really liked how we played today," head coach Mike LoPresti said. "Of course, going 4-1 in matches righted the ship after yesterday's performance. But it was how our players handled the extremely tough lane conditions throughout the day. We were extremely resilient, stayed positive and grinded it out when needed, and stepped up our play late in matches. Today is certainly something we can build on to help our development."

The Knights began the second day of the Caldwell Classic with a 900-850 victory over Molloy. Sherman led the way for the Knights with a 201, and Chrzanowski bowled a 191. Hart (186) and Henderson (176) also rallied the Knights to the opening victory, with sophomore Lanasia Neal and senior Brianna MacLeod splitting duties in the match for a combined effort of 146.

FDU next played a strong all-around match in a 1177-686 win over New Jersey City. The Knights filled all but four of 50 frames as a team, with Hart leading the charge with a 277 by tossing strikes in nine of her 10 frames. Chrzanowski started the match with six straight strikes and bowled her high score of 255, and Henderson (224), Sherman (213) and MacLeod (208) all totaled scores over 200.

The Burgundy and Blue also earned a decisive victory over Bloomfield, 919-800, with Chrzanowski (209) and Sherman (202) leading the way. Hart added a 176 and MacLeod contributed a 167, while Henderson and freshman Cameron Spring combined to total 165 for the Knights.

The next match saw the Knights suffer their lone defeat of the day to no. 25 Monmouth, 925-903. MacLeod played her best game of the day by scoring a 204.

Henderson then saved her best game for last with a 225 score to help the Knights close out the day with a 932-782 win over Felician. Chrzanowski bowled her third game of at least 200 pins, while Sherman added a 194 to her total. Freshman Ashley Sham subbed in for Hart to help her teammate combine for a 153 in the final frames.

The Knights play one more traditional match on Sunday morning against host Caldwell before starting the two-round Baker playoff best four-of-seven matches. A win over Caldwell would guarantee the Knights a chance at competing for the tournament title in the Baker playoff bracket.
