MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team played conference foe Robert Morris to a 0-0 draw in a double overtime contest on Sunday afternoon at North Athletic Complex.
"I don't think we created enough dangerous chances in today's game as we have been in the past few contests," said head coach
Eric Teepe. "Robert Morris had a strong game plan and were able to squeeze the field on us. Hopefully we can learn from this game and get back to being ready to compete every time out."
FDU (6-5-4, 5-0-1 NEC) opened the action by attempting the first shot off the foot of senior
Samantha Roff in the sixth minute that went just wide of the goal. Robert Morris (4-8-2, 2-3-1 NEC) freshman Sheridan Reid rifled the Colonials first shot of the game that went over the top of the net. The Knights attempted the first corner kick of the night in the 12th minute, but the Robert Morris back line was able to clear the ball.
Burgundy and Blue senior
Amanda Fitzgerald recorded her first save of the contest in the 14th minute on a shot that was aimed at the top shelf from sophomore Chelsea Kingston. Fitzgerald then made a diving save in the 15th minute off a shot from junior Brittany O'Connell that was aimed to the bottom right corner. FDU sophomore
Paula Ruess then marched down the field and fired a shot that went just left of the goal.
Robert Morris senior Kristina Kelley created another quality chance for the Colonials in the 19th minute that Fitzgerald again prevented from going in the net. FDU junior
Viktorija Miseljic then created a chance that went high of the mark. Off a Colonial corner kick in the 33rd minute, freshman Angela Van Damia rifled a shot that missed the net. The Knights earned the final corner kick of the first half, but again couldn't muster a shot.
FDU junior
Alexiane Marquis, who had netted two goals in the previous game, fired her first shot of the contest in the 48th minute that went wide of the mark. Fitzgerald recorded another save in the 58th minute on another shot by Kelley. Burgundy and Blue sophomore
Madelyn Robbins created a quality look in the 70th minute that was sent just high.
The Knights continued to apply pressure to the Colonials back line within a three-minute stretch in the second half in which senior
Jackson Bennett, Miseljic, and freshman
Naemi Hausen recorded shot attempts. The Hausen shot led to an FDU corner kick, but junior Sydney Bruckner was able to make a play on the ball. Fitzgerald made the final save of regulation on the Colonials' best look off the foot of junior Kaele Kloc in the 82nd minute.
In the first overtime, Marquis and Hausen attempted the only two shot attempts as the Knights defense held the Colonials without a shot. To start the second overtime, Robert Morris earned a corner kick chance in the 101st minute, but were unable to get a shot off. Miseljic then attempted the Knights lone shot in the second overtime period that went just over the net. The Colonials created the final chance in the game in the 110th minute off a corner kick that Reid sent over the crossbar.
Fitzgerald recorded five saves in the contest and her fourth shutout of the season. The senior now has 16 career shutouts, which is the most in program history. There were 17 players who appeared in today's contest for FDU.
The Burgundy and Blue will return to action on Sunday, October 20, at 12 p.m., when they welcome NEC opponent Bryant to University Stadium.
