HACKENSACK, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball recent graduate
Amina Markovic has signed a pro contract to play for Cosinus Widzew Lodz in Poland.
Widzew Lodz plays in the BLK league, the top league in Poland on the women's circuit, and the season runs from September through March.
"Amina has worked so hard and has come so far in her four years here at FDU," said Knights head coach
Peter Cinella. "Everyone in the women's basketball program is so proud of her because that is what she wanted to do. She'll be a great player and member of the community as well as a great leader for that team."
Markovic finished her career at FDU with a senior season that saw her earn All-NEC third team honors for the second straight year. She averaged 12.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game to go with 44 assists, 32 steals and 20 blocks. Markovic led the Knights in scoring and field-goal percentage (.496), was second on the team in rebounding and posted two double-doubles. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native scored in double-figures in 23 of the team's 30 games this past season.
Markovic finished her four seasons as a Knight with 741 points, 526 rebounds and a .463 field-goal percentage in 116 games. She recorded eight career double-doubles, including a 32-point, 11-rebound effort against Saint Francis U as a junior.
