Box Score
TEANECK, N.J. – Sophomore
Brandon Seltzer knocked in two runs and launched his first career home run to lead the Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team to a 7-1 victory over Saint Peter's at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite playing on their home field, the Knights served as the visiting team since the game was originally scheduled as a home contest for the Peacocks.
Seltzer deposited the second pitch of the ballgame over the center field fence to give the Knights (10-24) a lead they would not relinquish. The second-year center fielder finished the game 2-for-3 but reached base four times thanks to a pair of walks and totaled two RBIs, two runs scored and his tenth stolen base of the season in the win.
The Knights' no. 2 hitter
Evan McDonald also finished 2-for-3 in the victory, with two RBIs and a walk.
Freshman right-hander
Chris Quijano (2-3) tossed 5.2 innings, allowing one earned run and six hits, while striking out seven to net his second win of the season.
Saint Peter's freshman catcher Chris Marquart was the lone member of his team to record a multi-hit effort, finishing 2-for-2 with a solo home run and a base on balls in the loss.
After Seltzer launched his leadoff home run, the Knights would load the bases with a pair of walks sandwiched around a
Mike Veit infield single. But with two away, Saint Peter's starter Willie Krajnik struck out
James Donlon to limit the damage to one.
Quijano was sharp from the outset as he set down the Peacocks (0-29) with three straight groundouts in the first.
Still leading 1-0 in the top of the third, the Knights added to their lead.
Jason Fatzinger was hit by a pitch and then stole second before Veit tripled off of the left field fence. The next batter,
Oliver Tavares knocked home Veit with a single and then advanced into scoring position with a steal of second base.
With two away, freshman third baseman
Corbin Dunnuck chased home Tavares with a single on an 0-2 pitch to center, which gave the Knights a 4-0 lead.
Back-to-back doubles by Seltzer and McDonald in the fourth pushed the lead to 5-0 and that cushion would stand until the home sixth.
The Peacocks netted their lone run of the contest on Marquart's solo blast – a two-out shot -- which landed beyond the right field fence. The next two batters would reach on an error and a walk, which marked the end of Quijano's afternoon.
Senior
Dillon Forsythe came on in relief and recorded an inning-ending groundout to keep the score 5-1.
The Knights tacked on a pair in the top of the seventh when Seltzer drew a bases-loaded walk and McDonald was plunked with the bases still loaded.
Forsythe would close out the contest with a flawless seventh to give the Knights their second win in the last four tries.
The Knights return to Northeast Conference action this weekend as they travel to Staten Island to take on Wagner for a four-game series, which begins this Friday, April 27 at 3:00 p.m.
