EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team dropped the final game of its series at Mount St. Mary's 14-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The Mount (13-23, 7-10 NEC) pitching staff kept the Knights off-balance all game and held the team to just four hits in the loss.
Coming off of a 115-pitch, complete-game performance last Sunday, redshirt senior
Joe Flack (1-4) started for the Knights and allowed six earned across 5.2 innings of work, while walking six and striking out a pair.
Mount starter Jordan Geber (2-1) went the first six innings, allowing one earned run on two hits, while striking out seven. Reliever Andrew Dameron provided the home team three innings of scoreless relief to close out the win.
After two scoreless innings, the Mount broke through in the third. A pair of walks were followed by an RBI single from Vaughn Parker for the game's first tally. A bases-loaded walk plated the second run and the Mount netted a third on a sacrifice bunt.
Still leading 3-0 in the sixth, another bases-loaded free pass scored a run before Parker came through with a two-run single up the middle.
The Knights' lone run of the contest came in the top of the seventh.
Joe O'Rourke,
James Donlon and
Peter Theodorellis all walked to load the bases for
Matt Armendinger, who knocked in O'Rourke with a ground out to second.
Geber escaped the jam by inducing back-to-back flyouts to end the inning and the Knights would not score again.
With the 6-1 lead in hand, the home team put the game away with eight runs on five hits in the bottom of the eighth. Alex Kriss provided the big blast with a three-run home run and then Patrick Causa followed with a solo shot to conclude the scoring.
The Knights are back in action this Tuesday, April 24 when they visit Saint Peter's at 3:00 p.m.
