MOON TOWNSHIP, P.A. - The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team lost 62-49 Saturday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex against Robert Morris. The loss moves the Knights to 15-10 on the season, including a 7-7 mark in NEC play.
FDU will return to action on Monday when they head to Loretto, Pa. for a 6 p.m. clash against Saint Francis U.
"I really like how we played through the first three quarters today, unfortunately we just gave up too many three-pointers in the fourth," head coach Pete Cinella said. "We need to defend the three-point line better going forward."
Kamrin Weimer,
Lauren Francillon, and
Jenna Clark each led the Knights with eight points.
Madelynn Comly pulled down a team-high seven boards to go along with three assists.
The first half was a back and forth battle that saw the lead change six times, with RMU attacking the paint and the Knights spreading the floor and connecting on a couple of deep three-pointers.
Freshman
Kamrin Weimer drilled a pair of back to back jumpers just inside the arc to tie the game up at nine before knocking down a deep three-ball two minutes later to give FDU the 16-15 lead. The Colonials would continue to fire back, but some aggressive defense on the perimeter on the part of FDU helped blunt the lethal RMU shooting attack, keeping Robert Morris to just 29% from the floor.
RMU freshman Honoka Ikematsu and
Jenna Clark traded threes again in the final minute of the second as Robert Morris took a 23-22 lead into the locker rooms at the half.
The Knights continued to push the pace in the third quarter, as Francillon knocked down back-to-back-to-back jumpers to increase FDU's lead to four before
Lucia Serrano-Ranz finished off a nice move to the net to lay it in for the score. The Knights bench outscored RMU's 29-19, the third straight game this season in which the FDU bench has outscored the competition.
The Colonials would hold the advantage on the boards, however, out-rebounding the Knights 42-30, including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. RMU hauled down eight defensive rebounds and nailed four threes in the fourth to pull away from the Knights and secure the win.
"I liked our bench scoring again today, and thought we had some good defensive moments limiting them to just 29% from the field," Cinella said. "We just have to start to do a better job of taking care of the ball and rebounding the ball."
