LORETTO, P.A. - The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team fell on the road Monday night against Saint Francis U by a final score of 80-61. The loss moves the Knights to 15-11 on the season, including a 7-8 mark in NEC play.
The Knights return to action on Saturday when they play host to LIU Brooklyn at 2 p.m. for Senior Day.
Lauren Francillon finished with a double-double putting up a team high 14 points as well as 10 rebounds.
Peniel M'Bikata finished with 13 points to go along two assists and a block on the evening.
"In the first half, we were making good decisions with the ball and were aggressive, we just could not get any of the shots to fall for us," head coach Pete Cinella said post game. "In the second I thought we swung the ball better and did start to make some shots and actually out-scored them, but their defense came out and had ten steals. The steals are what gave them those break-away layups."
After missing their first eight shots from beyond the three-point arc, the Saint Francis shooters settled into a rhythm, hitting six of their next 15 from three-point range. Junior Jessica Kovatch was four of nine from three in the first half and finished with seven total on the evening.
The Red Flash forced 24 turnovers against the Knights and scored 31 points off of those miscues.
The Knights were aggressive on the boards, enjoying a 31-27 advantage in defensive rebounds, however the Knights could not keep up with the SFU shooters from the perimeter, finishing with just four threes off of 20 attempts. FDU was averaging 5.2 threes a game heading into Monday's clash.
The Red Flash opened the scoring two minutes in courtesy of a Kovatch layup, and would not relinquish the lead for the entirety of the game.
The Knights had their best offensive quarter of the game in the 4th, outscoring Saint Francis 24-16 in the final frame. Francillon finished off a nice move in the post to kick things off before
Madelynn Comly and Kamrin Weimer each responded with a three-ball of their own.
Kovatch finished with a team-high 29 points fro SFU. M'Bikata led the Knights in steals with three total.
"We knew they were going to shoot a lot of threes tonight, that's what they always do," Cinella said. "But you can't turn the ball over and give them break-away layups like we did tonight."
