NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team was swept 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-15) by the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils at Detrick Gymnasium on Friday night.
The Knights (2-16, 0-4 NEC) were unable to slow the Blue Devils (7-9, 4-1 NEC) attack, as the home team out-hit the Knights 42-22 in total kills.
Junior
Erika Sullivan led the Knights with seven kills in the loss, while freshman
Jaelyn Young recorded nine digs and sophomore setter
McKenna Setterlund dished out eight assists.
The Blue Devils were led by Madelyn Kaprelyan's 12 kills and 11 assists and recorded a team attack percentage of .395 in the win. In addition to their efficient offensive effort, the Blue Devils limited the Knights to a .013 attack percentage on the night.
In the opening set, the Blue Devils scored the first three points and last six points en route to a wire-to-wire, 15-point victory.Â
The Knights fell behind 6-0 in the second set before clawing their way back to make it a 9-7 game. Sophomore
Erin Singer's service ace pulled the Knights to within two before an attack error and a kill by
Magdalena Maksimovic sliced the score to 11-10. Leading 14-11, the Blue Devils rattled off five straight tallies to establish a comfortable lead they would not relinquish.Â
The final frame saw the Knights hang tight early, trailing 8-7 aided by a pair of kills from freshman
Jessica Throckmorton. Throckmorton would finish with four kills and four digs in the loss.
Leading by one, the Blue Devils pulled away with six straight points, including a pair of aces by Samanda McCreath, which stretched the lead to 14-7. The Knights were unable to cut into the deficit as CCSUÂ won the set by 10 and finalized the straight-set victory.
The Knights are back in action tomorrow when they travel north to Smithfield, Rhode Island to face Bryant. First serve is set for 5:00 p.m.Â
