DAY THREE
READING Pa. – The No. 10 Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team finished ninth at the Kutztown Invitational after going 1-2 in bracket play on Sunday afternoon.
The Knights, who were seeded eighth, faced NEC foe Saint Francis U in the first round. The Knights and Red Flash went six games in a best-of-seven baker match. The teams alternated wins in games one and two. Saint Francis U then won games three (200-153) and four (215-171) to take a 3-1 lead. Fairleigh Dickinson then won game five 218-180 to force a game six. In game six, the Red Flash squeaked out a four-pin win, 207-203, to take a 4-2 match win.
Fairleigh Dickinson faced Stephen F Austin in round two. The Knights and Lumber Jacks went five games and the Knights lost 4-1. SFA got out to a 3-0 lead before the Knights got a win in game dour, 200-155. SFA came back to win game five, 212-188, to take the move on.
In the final round on Sunday, the Knights picked up a 4-1 win over Adelphi. The Knights started well with wins in games one (235-180) and two (246-190). The Knights bounced back in games four and five with two double digit pin wins.
Aimee Sherman was named Third-Team All-Tournament.
The Knights return to action on February 2 in Arlington, Texas for the Prairie View A&M Invitational.
DAY TWO
READING, Pa. – The tenth-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team went 3-2 on the second day of the Kutztown Invitational, but fell from third to eighth in the standings—based on pin fall—and will enter bracket play there on Sunday.
The Knights started the day 2-0 in a day of five traditional team games before falling in two of the final three.
Aimee Sherman finished the day 16th in the individual standings—best on the team—with an average of 212.6 over five games.
Karsyn Lukosius was next for the Knights in 45th with an average of 196.2. As a team, the Knights averaged 202.1 over Friday and Saturday to land in eighth.
Fairleigh Dickinson topped Bethune Cookman, 1,019-841 in match one of the day. The Knights had four players crack the 200-pin plateau; led by Sherman's 231.
Amanda Chrzanowski,
Samantha Hart and Lukosis were over 200.
Medaille (N.Y.) was the opponent in match two and the Knights came away with a 954-936 win.
Deborah Epps and Sherman paced the team with matching 226's.
Match three against Stephen F Austin was the closest of the afternoon for the Knights. The Lumber Jacks squeaked past the Knights 1,128-1,126. Chrzanowski has the high game of the day by a Knight with a 268. Sherman had her best game of the day in defeat as well, 257. Lukosius tallied a 212 and Epps knocked down 211.
The number one team in the country, McKendree, handed the Knights a second straight setback in match four, 1,124-877.
Jenna Henderson came off the bench to roll the best score, 195. Chrzanowski was next with a 185. McKendree had all five players in the 200's.
Fairleigh Dickinson ended the day with a win over Arkansas State, 907-863. Epps once again totaled 226 pins and Lukosius was next at a 200 for the Knights.
Sunday bracket play starts at 8:30 a.m. against Saint Francis U for Fairleigh Dickinson. The winner of the match plays the loser Arkansas State and Delaware State.
DAY ONE
READING, Pa. – The tenth-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team sits in third place after the first day of the Kutztown Invitational.
The Knights averaged 208.8 per game on Friday and posted a 4-1 record over five total pin fall baker matches. Fairleigh Dickinson only trails McKendree and Vanderbilt, who sit in first and second respectively in the standings. Vanderbilt is the sole team that went 5-0 on Friday.
The first match of the day saw Fairleigh Dickinson battle No. 9 Tulane and came away with a 1,130-1,062 win. The Knights were over 230 in three of the five games; 258 in game two, 257 in game four, and 232 in game five. The Knights needed all of those pins as the Green Wave were over 200 in four of the five games; including rolling a 267 in game three.
Fairleigh Dickinson knocked off Youngstown State, who received votes in December's NTCA poll, 1,006-988 in match two for both sides. The Knights were ahead by 60 pins after games one and two, and then by 74 after three. Fairleigh Dickinson created even more separation in game four with a 224-153 final score. The Penguins rolled a 226 to the Knights' 188 in game five, but it was not enough to come all the way back.
Fairleigh Dickinson made it three straight wins to start the day with a 1,092-915 triumph over No. 24 Monmouth. The Knights cracked the 200-pin plateau four times once again against the Hawks. The Knights started with a 235 in game one and then rolled back-to-back 224s in games three and four before registering a 235 in game five. The Hawks got above 200 twice; 202 in both games one and four.
The Knights lone setback on the day came at the hands of Norfolk State, 1,025-971. The Knights started off good against the Spartans, as they found themselves up by 60 pins after three games. In game four, the Spartans were nearly perfect as they scored a 280 to the Knights' 172 to take a 48-pin lead into game five. The Spartans topped the Knights 224-218 to extend the lead.
Fairleigh Dickinson concluded the day with a win against No. 14 UAB, 1,022-963. The two were even after the first two games, and then UAB took an 11-pin lead after a 193-182 victory in game three. The Knights quickly erased that deficit with a 30-pin win in game four and then a 40-pin win in game five to get the overall match win.
Fairleigh Dickinson and the other 27 teams will return to the lanes tomorrow (Saturday) for five traditional team games.
