Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to La Salle

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Sunday's game versus La Salle followed a similar script as Friday's at Monmouth for the Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer as the Knights fell 1-0 to the visiting Explorers.

Fairleigh Dickinson (2-4) outshot La Salle (4-1-1) 12-4 on the afternoon and had the better of the chances. The Knights outshot Monmouth 12-8 on Friday. However, La Salle -- like Monmouth -- capitalized on one of its few chances with a goal from Maci Bower in the 62nd minute.

Bower's shot was the second of two shots that La Salle got on goal. Amanda Fitzgerald stopped one in the first half.

"We competed throughout the game today. I thought we controlled play and we did not give a lot of opportunities. We did not take good enough care of the ball in the final third, and they did, that is why they won," said head coach Eric Teepe

The Knights had chances both before and after the Explorers took the lead, but the final pass in the attacking third was evasive for the Knights.

Three of the Knights 12 shots on the afternoon tested Larisa Zambelli in the Explorer goal, and all three came in the first half. The Knights had a series of chances to tie the game in the latter stages of the second half. Off a corner kick in the 77th minute, Chloe Chefero fired a shot from the top of the box that went through a crowd and wide right. Six minutes later, Meghan Griffin and Viktorija Miseljic had bids to tie the game but did not make it on target.

Teepe added, "We are still looking for the perfect goal. We are not committed to getting numbers forward. [We] had chances to serve the ball in and only have two players [in the box]. Trying to score outnumbered two-on-six is hard."

In the closing minutes, Fairleigh Dickinson had a shot blocked from Julia Shea that came from inside the box, and a corner from Jessi Reinhardt went through the box and saw no one get on the end of.

"We have to start learning from our losses. I thought we could have gone 1-0-1 this weekend. We need to start doing the little things better. Competitive wise, today was a good step back in the right direction."

The Knights hit the road for four straight games over the next two weekends. Up first for Fairleigh Dickinson is a trip up to Buffalo to face Niagara and Buffalo.
