HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team is set to continue Northeast Conference action this weekend when they travel to Pennsylvania to square off with Saint Francis U and Robert Morris on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The Knights (3-12, 0-1 NEC), will look to get on track after dropping their NEC opener last Friday at Sacred Heart 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 21-25, 14-25). In the loss, senior
Taylor Wyckoff double-doubled with 11 kills and 10 digs.
ROAD WARRIORS
This weekend the Knights continue their stretch of road games as they begin this season with 13 of their first 15 matches away from home. With the lopsided early schedule, the team will spend the entire month of October in the friendly confines of the Rothman Center – a string of eight-straight home contests.
ACE-HIGH
Through 15 matches, the Knights have racked up 66 service aces (1.3 sa/set), which puts them on pace for their highest output since the 2012 campaign where they totaled 164 (1.5 sa/set). Additionally, their 18 service aces in their four-set win over Manhattan on September 2 is still the most by any Division I team in a match this season.
DIG THIS
The Knights currently lead the NEC in digs per set at 17.42 per frame. At the forefront of the defensive effort is senior libero
Carly O'Sullivan, who has 228 digs on the season (4.37 d/set), which is fourth best in the conference.
SCOUTING THE RED FLASH
Saint Francis U (6-8, 0-1 NEC) is coming off a four-set defeat to Robert Morris. In the loss, the Red Flash were led by Emily Marcinowski, Emily Pieper, Kelsey Roush. Marcinowski had a match-best 16 kills while Pieper and Roush had 13 kills and Roush added 21 digs., Roush ranks second in the NEC with 190 total kills and an average of 3.88 per set this season. Defensively, the Red Flash are third in the NEC in digs at just over 16 digs per set, led by Jenna Veres who leads the NEC with 5.71 digs per set.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
Robert Morris enters the weekend at 7-9 on the season and claimed their NEC opener over Saint Francis U last Friday 3-1 (19-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-22). The freshmen tandem of Alyson Londot and Emma Granger have been prominent in the team's success this season. The duo has captured the last three NEC Rookie of the Week awards. Londot took home the honor on Monday by racking up 30 digs in a 3-1 win over Saint Francis U, while Granger clalaimed the previous two awards and leads the team with 174 kills (3.0 k/set) this season. Granger's .364 attack percentage this season is second best in the NEC and her 29 service aces are tops in the conference.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Knights return home next weekend (Oct. 6-7) for the first two of eight consecutive home matches. On Friday, October 6 the Knights welcome Bryant for a 5:00 p.m. start at the Rothman Center before hosting Central Connecticut State on Saturday, October 7 at 4:00 p.m.
