Women's Soccer Downed by Gonzaga

SPOKANE, WASH. – Gonzaga scored two goals in the first half and then three in the second to top the Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team 5-1 on Friday night.

Gonzaga (6-1-1), who is off to the best start in program history, was up 3-0 before Fairleigh Dickinson (2-6-1) found the back of the net on a header from Sofia Albertsson in the 55th minute. The freshman got her third of the season off a free kick service from Stasi Torchia.

The Bulldogs would then score three more times in the final 30-plus minutes, including two goals in 1:47 late in the going.

India Jencks scored the first of two on the night in the 29th minute when she put home a shot that came to her off the post. Maddie Kincaid made it a 2-0 halftime lead for the home side with her second of the season with 26 seconds left in the first half.

Jencks put home her second in the 54th minute to make it a 3-0 score.

Albertsson rose above the crowd 1:09 after Jencks' second goal to make it a 3-1 game. Torchia played in the service from the left wing, and Albertsson knocked the ball past Isabel Jones, as she was diving to her right. Viktorija Miseljic had a pair of shots from the top of the box in the ensuing minutes after Albertsson's goal, but neither was on target.

In the 77th minute, Maggie Connors beat Amanda Fitzgerald to the 'keeper's right at the near post to make it a 4-1 scoreline. Sophia Vivano concluded the scoring for the night 1:47 later.

Gonzaga controlled play for a majority of the contest, which led to a 19-8 advantage in shots and forced seven saves from Fitzgerald in the Fairleigh Dickinson goal.

The Knights return to action on Sunday afternoon at Eastern Washington. Game time is 4 p.m. ET/ 1 p.m. PT.
