In the first frame, the Knights fell behind early 6-2 before chipping away six straight points to take the lead, 8-7, after a kill by Strebig. The Bulldogs responded by taking six of the next nine points to retake the lead. A Jamie Rogers ace cut the deficit to three. However, Fairleigh Dickinson could not overtake the Bulldogs as Drake took the first set.
In the second frame, the Bulldogs jumped out an early lead, but after back-to-back kills by Maksimovic and Annabel Reyes, the Knights evened the frame at 8. The Knights emerged late in the set and took advantage of some Drake miscues, but the Bulldogs held off the attack to take the second set leading 2-0.
The third set became a must for the Knights who got off to a successful start. After kills from Koester and Maksimovic, the Knights took an 8-7 lead. The momentum shifted as the Bulldogs took the next six points to take a 13-8 lead. Trailing 20-15, a kill from Wyckoff put a spark in the Knights. The Bulldogs held on in the end to take the final set.
Fairleigh Dickinson recorded two solo blocked shots, one each by Wyckoff and Reyes. Jamie Rogers, Wyckoff and Maksimovic each tallied an ace.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to take on the Peacocks of Saint Peter's. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
