SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team returns to NEC action this weekend for a four-game series at first-place Bryant in a rematch of last year's conference championship. The series begins on Friday, April 28 at 3:00 p.m.
The Knights (10-20, 7-4 NEC) are coming off a four-game non-conference week where they posted a 1-3 record against Delaware State, Saint Peter's and No. 18 St. John's.
In Saturday afternoon's loss at St. John's, senior right-hander
Logan Frati became the school's all-time leader in innings pitched at 277.1 for his career. Frati enters this weekend just four strikeouts away from 200, which would move him into fourth all-time in Knights history.
Another Knight on the precipice of history is senior shortstop
Matt McCann. McCann, who leads the team and the NEC with a .392 batting average this season and has 47 hits, 29 runs and 15 stolen bases, is just four stolen bases away from becoming the school's all-time leader. The senior is also ascending the ranks in all-time hits (7
th) and at bats (11
th).
The Knights, who boast the top team batting average in the NEC at .294 and are first in home runs with 26, enter the weekend third in the NEC with 15 conference games remaining.
The defending NEC Champion Bulldogs (17-21, 10-4 NEC) are in the midst of a modest two-game skid as they dropped the final two games of their four-game series at Central Connecticut State 8-0 and 9-7.
Bryant features the NEC's top RBI man in Mickey Gasper, who holds a slim 36-35 edge over FDU's
Ryan Brennan for the top spot.
This weekend's series will feature three, nine-inning games and one seven-inning game, which is game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
Series History: Bryant leads 27-4 and won last year's NEC Championship Game over the Knights 8-3.
