Baseball Set for Three-Game Series at No. 22 St. John's

QUEENS, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team takes a break from NEC action this weekend with a tough three-game series at the No. 22 St. John's Red Storm at Jack Kaiser Stadium.

The Knights (10-18, 7-4 NEC) are in the midst of five straight games against non-conference foes and are currently 1-1 so far.

On Tuesday, the team nearly overcame a five-run deficit with a ninth-inning rally but ultimately came up short 8-7.

Senior shortstop Matt McCann tallied three of the Knights' seven hits in the game and stole his 15thbase of the season, which pulled him into a tie for third all-time in school history at 68. McCann also knocked in a pair of runs and scored once in the loss.

The senior shortstop continued his stellar play on Wednesday with a 4-for-5 game and knocked in four runs as the Knights topped Saint Peter's 13-6. McCann currently leads the Knights with a .402 batting average, 45 hits and 28 runs scored.

Freshman right-hander James Donlon started for the Knights and picked up his first collegiate victory by tossing six innings of two-run ball, allowing seven hits and three strikeouts without walking a batter.

The Knights are set to square off with the Red Storm (27-5, 4-2 BIG EAST) for the fifth straight season. The all-time series stands at 44-8-1 in favor of St. John's, who has won the last 21 meetings between the two squads. The Knights last topped the Red Storm back in 1987 with a 10-9 triumph.

Senior right-hander Logan Frati is scheduled to open the series and is just four frames away from eclipsing the Knights' all-time record of 277.

St. John's comes into the weekend with a four-game winning streak. The team swept a three-game series at Butler before dropping NYIT this past Wednesday 13-8.
