TEANECK, N.J. – Senior shortstop
Matt McCann went 4-for-5 with four RBI to help lead the Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team to a 13-6 victory over Saint Peter's at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
The victory was never in doubt as the Knights (10-18) led 11-0 through five innings en route to the comfortable win.
McCann paced a Knights' attack, which amassed 17 hits on the day. The senior shortstop added two doubles and a pair of runs to his ledger, while junior third baseman
Bobby Romano finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and hit his team-leading sixth home run of the season.
FDU freshman center fielder
Mike Veit also had a big day with a perfect 3-for-3 game, which included three RBI and three runs scored.
Freshman right-hander
James Donlon started for the Knights and picked up his first collegiate victory by tossing six innings of two-run ball, allowing seven hits and three strikeouts without walking a batter.
Romano opened the game with a bang as he clobbered the first pitch he saw over the right-center field fence and gave the Knights a 1-0 lead.
The junior third baseman continued to serve as a catalyst as he increased the Knights' lead with a third-inning, two-run double, which plated McCann for a 3-0 edge.
The Knights' bats were in full effect in the fourth as they delivered five hits and netted six runs for their effort.
Hunter Reeser drew a bases-loaded walk, which opened the scoring and then Veit and McCann followed with run-scoring singles and knocked out Saint Peter's starter Kevin Soriano.
Romano welcomed the new reliever with an RBI double to left field and
Ryan Brennan knocked in McCann with a single, which built the cushion to 8-0.
Brennan, who registered career RBI number 100 this past weekend at Sacred Heart, now has a team-best 33 on the season. The senior first baseman finished 2-for-5 in the game.
Three more runs came for the Knights in the fifth courtesy of a two-run double by Veit and an RBI two-bagger by McCann.
After the Peacocks (0-20) entered the scoring column with a two-run homer by Anthony Ramos in the seventh, McCann immediately added to the Knights' lead with another RBI double, which made it a 13-2 game and helped solidify the outcome.
Reeser joined his five teammates with a multi-hit game by finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored, one RBI and two walks.
The Knights have one day off before returning to action for a three-game series this weekend against No. 22 St. John's in Queens, N.Y. The series begins this Friday, April 21 at 3:00 p.m.
