CINCINNATI, Ohio– The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team is set to take on its first of two BIG EAST opponents this season when they travel to Xavier to take on the Musketeers for a three-game series this weekend.
The Knights (4-11) have dropped two straight after a four-game winning streak, while the Musketeers (13-12) have won six of eight but suffered losses in two of their last three outings, including a 7-0 loss to Illinois State this past Wednesday.
Xavier is the first BIG EAST team the Knights have faced this season as they are set to travel to take on No. 4 St. John's April 21-23.
After a slow start to the season on the road, the Knights returned home and won two straight by picking up victories over Lafayette and NJIT. They followed those performances by sweeping their NEC season-opening doubleheader at Wagner before dropping the series finale.
Senior first baseman
Ryan Brennan has been the catalyst for the FDU offense as he leads the team with a .352 batting average, four home runs, 16 RBI and 12 runs scored.
On the mound, their team's crafty southpaw
Danny Demetrops has pitched well to begin the season for the Knights. Demetrops currently sports a 2.75 ERA and a 2-0 record. In his last start, the senior left-hander pitched a complete game, striking out seven and permitting just one walk and two runs.
