BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team opens NEC action this weekend with a three-game series against Wagner. All three games will be played at
MCU Park in Brooklyn.
Due to the winter weather conditions, the Knights are returning to the field for the first time in the last sixteen days. On Friday, the Knights (2-9) and Seahawks (2-10) will play a nine-inning, doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. before wrapping up the series on Saturday night with a single game at 8:00 p.m.
After a slow start to the season on the road, the Knights returned home and won two straight by picking up victories over Lafayette and NJIT. The win over NJIT came back on March 8 and the team has dealt with four cancellations since then.
In those two wins, the Knights offense was front and center as the team stockpiled 24 runs and launched seven home runs.
At the forefront of the offensive surge were
Jason Fatzinger and
Ryan Brennan. Fatzinger batted .500, hit three homers, knocked in five and scored four runs, while Brennan -- who leads the Knights with 11 RBI on the campaign -- knocked in four with one swing of that bat against NJIT and also crossed the plate four times in the two wins.
Wagner enters the weekend at 2-10 but won its last outing with a 6-2 victory over Holy Cross on March 18. The team's lone other win this season came back in their second game when they rolled over Grambling State 19-3 in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
