Knights Fall 5-2 in Weekend Finale at Davidson

Box Score
DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team dropped its final game of the weekend at Davidson, 5-2 to the host Wildcats at Wilson Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Knights (0-6) welcomed back senior right-hander Logan Frati, who posted a 7-1 record last season and a 3.43 ERA. Frati made his 2017 debut on Sunday and worked 2.2 innings allowed four runs (two earned), and struck out one.

Dillon Forsythe made his second appearance of the season in relief and gave the Knights three scoreless innings, limiting the Wildcats (5-2) to just one hit.

For the second straight day, the Knights found themselves with an early lead as Jorge Iza plated leadoff man Matt McCann with a double down the left field line in the top of the first. Iza and McCann each went 2-for-4 in the game.

In the home half of the inning, Frati worked out of a jam after allowing the first two men to reach by retiring the next three batters in order.

Davidson broke through against the Knights' starter in the bottom of the third. With two on and two out, the Wildcats strung together a single by Will Robertson and a double by Max Bazin, which netted a pair of runs. Then, a defensive miscue by the Knights allowed two more Wildcats' to cross the plate and the home team held a 4-1 lead by the conclusion of the inning.

In the top of the fifth, freshman Dan Bello belted his first career home run for the Knights, a solo blast, which cut the deficit to 4-2.

Unfortunately, the Knights were unable to score again and the Wildcats tacked on a fifth run for insurance before finalizing the victory.

Allen Barry earned the win for the Wildcats to improve to 2-0 on the campaign. Barry went five innings, scattered four hits, allowed two runs and struck out six. Westin Whitmire allowed two hits but pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his second save of the young season.

FDU will look to get its first win of the 2017 season when they travel to Saint Louis University for a three-game series with the Billikens beginning this Friday, March 3 at 3 p.m.
