HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team travels to Chattanooga, Tennessee this weekend for the 2017 Frost Classic hosted by the Chattanooga Mocs.
The Knights will play five games over Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday's two games will be against Northwestern State (La.) Demons at 11 a.m. and the hosts at 1:30 p.m. Saturday's tilts will be against UT Martin Skyhawks and Saint Louis Billikens at 11 a.m. and 1:30 as well. Sunday will be a single game at 10 a.m. against Western Michigan Broncos.

The Knights and Mocs played for the first time in Fairleigh Dickinson's last game in Florida two weeks ago. UTC won 6-4. Fairleigh Dickinson and UT Martin have met three previous times -- 2004, '06, '10 -- the Skyhawks have won all three meetings. Fairleigh Dickinson will be playing Northwestern State, Saint Louis and Western Michigan for the first time this weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
Fairleigh Dickinson dropped all five games down in Florida to open the 2017 season. The Knights fell twice to Morgan State and Liberty and once to Chattanooga. The losses to Morgan State and Chattanooga were all by three runs or less.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Northwestern State -- The Demons enter at 5-5-1 on the season. Last time out for Northwestern State was a 5-3 loss against Louisana Monroe. The Demons were picked sixth in the Southland Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Micayla Sorosiak leads the squad in hitting at .370 and runs scored with eight. Mikayla Brown has logged the most innings for Northwestern State (36.2) and a 4.92 ERA.
Chattanooga -- The Mocs are 3-6 overall in 2017 and have lost three straight contests -- Tennessee Tech, Radford and UConn. Three Mocs are hitting over .400 on the young season, led by Emma Sturdivant at .421. In the circle, Payten Price leads the staff innings with 35.1 and a 3.76 ERA.
UT Martin -- The Skyhawks are 7-1 in 2017 so far. UT Martin started the season 7-0 before falling to Akron in its previous game, 3-2. In the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll the Skyhawks were picked sixth. Renate Meckl paces the offense for the Skyhawks with a .520/.562/.760 slash line. Brooke Kennedy is 4-0 on the season while posting a 3.50 ERA.
Saint Louis -- The Billikens are 3-2 in 2017. SLU is coming off a 14-5 win over Austin Peay in its last game at the Kennesaw State Tournament two weeks ago. Saint Louis was picked fifth in the Atlantic-10 Preseason Poll. Four Billikens, who have played in all five games, are hitting over .400 this season. Alyssa Tarquinio is the best of that quartet are .600 so far this season. Three different Billikens have one a game in the circle. Kaylea Chappelle has the best ERA of the three at 2.80.
Western Michigan -- The Broncos are 2-4 on the young season. They did win their last game against Seattle U out in Tempe, Arizona by the score of 9-1. The Broncos were picked to finish fifth in the MAC Western Division in the preseason poll. Mackenzie Swinehart is the top hitter for the Broncos with a .522 average and a .542 on-base. Anissa Sanchez and Jordan Kurth have logged 34 innings between them, and both own an ERA under one.
FIRST TIME OUT
Freshman
Madison Emerson led the offense for the Knights down in Florida two weekend ago. Emerson hit .429 and had an on-base and slugging percentage of .500. The .429 clip puts the California native T4 in the NEC in average in the early going of 2017. The first-year Knights also pitched seven innings versus Morgan State while not allowing an earned run -- three unearned -- in her first start as a collegiate.
DRIVING THEM IN
Kellie Natham knocked in six of the Knights 11 runs down in Florida two weeks ago. The sophomore had four in the season-opener against Morgan State. The six RBIs are T4 in the NEC.

Cheryl Lopez,
Summer Mendoza and Natham all sit at .333 average heading into the weekend. All three also get on-base at a .400 rate or higher.
