Women's Hoops Falls to Mount in Overtime on Senior Day

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A Courtney Blankenship three-pointer tied the game at 64 in the final minute of regulation to force overtime but two 3-pointers from Mount St. Mary's Alexis Carter gave the Mountaineers the lead for good in the extra session and won 75-71.

The loss by Fairleigh Dickinson (8-18, 6-9 NEC) ends a three-game winning streak. The win for Mount St. Mary's (10-16, 8-7 NEC) clinches them a spot in the NEC Tournament in two weeks.

The Knights erased a six-point deficit over the final 4:08 by outscoring the Mountaineers 7-1 over that span.

Madelynn Comly started the run with a layup after Kiana Brown found her streaking down the right side of the lane. Lauren Francillon connected on two free throws to make it a two-point game -- 63-61 -- with 2:57 left. Mikal Johnson scored The Mount's lone point on a free throw to make it 64-61 with 1:55 left in the fourth quarter.

Fairleigh Dickinson got a defensive stop after not scoring off two offensive rebounds on their end to set up Blankenship's three.

The freshmen hit the three from right in front of the Fairleigh Dickinson bench off a pass from Comly. Blankenship finished with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting; including two treys.

In the extra session, the Knights led once, after a Brianna Thomas three-pointer from the top of the key. Thomas' three gave Fairleigh Dickinson a 67-66 lead with 3:30 to play.

Carter broke a 68-68 tie with the first of her two 3-pointer with 1:58 left in overtime.

The second 3-pointer by Carter gave the Mountaineers a 74-70 lead with a minute play. That followed two free throws by Blankenship to make it a one-point game.

Thomas led the Knights with 17 points in her final regular-season home game. It was the senior's first game in double figures since at Mount St. Mary's back on January 16.

Carter led three Mountaineers in double figures with 22 points, new career high.

Kiana Brown and Natalie Zamora each had nine points. Brown also had five assists. Francillon had six points, six rebounds, and two blocks.

The Knights will play the final three games of the season on the road, with the first one coming on Monday night at Sacred Heart for a 6 pm start on ESPN3.
