Volleyball Drops Road Match at Central Connecticut State 3-0

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Senior Taylor Wyckoff tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs but the Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team fell to Central Connecticut State in straight sets (25-21, 25-21, 25-18) on Saturday.

Wyckoff's double-double is her seventh of the season and her .348 attack percentage in the match is her second highest rate this year.

With the win, the Blue Devils (16-7, 9-3 NEC) are currently tied with LIU Brooklyn for the top spot in the Northeast Conference with two matches to play.

In the opening set, the teams were tied at 12-12 before the Blue Devils scored six unanswered points led by junior setter Kaitlyn Kushman's serving prowess. Kushman delivered two aces over that span and finished with three on the night.

The Knights fought back to within three, 18-15, but the Blue Devils stopped the comeback and closed out the four-point, opening set win.

The second set again saw the two teams deadlocked at 12-12 midway through the frame. As they did in the first set, the Blue Devils rattled off four unanswered tallies to gain some breathing room.

Two kills by freshman Magdalena Maksimovic helped bring the Knights within one, 19-18 before the Blue Devils answered with three straight tallies and ultimately finalized the win. Maksimovic finished with eight kills and two block assists in the match.

In the third and final set of the night, the Blue Devils jumped on the Knights by capturing an 8-1 lead. Following a timeout by coach Andrea Nolan, the Knights responded by notching eight of the next nine points and took a 10-9 lead.  Freshman Nataliya Rybakova served up the run for the Knights and came through with two aces over that span. Rybakova totaled six kills and five digs along with her two aces.

With the Knights leading 17-16, the Blue Devils closed out the match by scoring nine of the set's final 10 points. The home team posted its highest attack percentage, .250, in that final set and limited the Knights to .070.

Samantha McCreath led the Blue Devils with nine kills, while McDermott finished with 14 assists and 11 digs.

The Knights close out the 2017 season next weekend with a pair of matches in Brooklyn. First up is a date with St. Francis Brooklyn next Friday, November 10 at 4:00 p.m.
