on the Road...6-32
Streak...L1
Last Meeting...Saint Peter's 84, FDU 58 (11/20/16)
At the third and final day of the Johnny Bach Classic hosted by Fordham, the Knights fell to the Peacocks by 26 points. FDU finished the weekend 1-2, while the Peacocks posted a 2-1 record.
The Knights (2-3) struggled to contain the Peacocks' (2-2) three-point prowess and balanced scoring attack, which saw six players score in double figures. Trevis Wyche topped the Peacocks' scorers with 17 points, while Nick Griffin added 16 tallies. Wyche and Griffin each knocked down three trifectas as the Peacocks totaled 10 in the win.
Darian Anderson led the Knights in scoring with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers. Stephan Jiggetts and Mike Holloway both tallied double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Holloway also added five rebounds to his ledger in the loss.
The Knights outscored the Peacocks 34-24 in the paint and shot a higher percentage overall -- 50 percent to 46.4 percent -- but could not overcome the disparity from long range and the free throw line. Saint Peter's converted 22-29 (75.9%) from the free throw line to go along with its 10 three-pointers.
Herenda's Postgame 11/20/16:
We were just obviously a step slow to everything today defensively. We dug ourselves a hole that we could never recover from," coach
Greg Herenda said following the loss. "I am still very proud of some of the things we accomplished here in this tournament. We had some great individual and team efforts. What this team needs most right now is time to rest and recover -- and then we'll go back to work."
The Knights: The Knights nearly overcame a 22-point halftime deficit but came up short in an 83-76 loss to Princeton at the Rothman Center on Sunday afternoon. The team fought valiantly to weather the scorching hot shooting performance of the Tigers (2-3) -- and trailed by three points in the final minute -- but ultimately could not overtake the defending Ivy League Champions, who shot 66 percent from the field in the game. After a cold-shooting first half, which saw the Knights convert 8-of-22 (36.4 percent) overall and miss all nine of their three-point attempts, the home team responded with a 58.8 percent (20-of-34) effort in the second stanza. Freshman guard
Jahlil Jenkins finished with 16 points, five steals three rebounds and three assists to lead the Knights in the loss, while junior guard
Darnell Edge hit 6-of-10 shots and matched Jenkins with a team-high 16 points. Junior guard Devin Cannady played all 40 minutes and topped the Tigers' scoresheet with 22 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while classmate Myles Stephens totaled 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting. The duo helped the Tigers to a 66 percent shooting performance in the game. Stephens filled up the stat sheet with six rebounds, four assists and three steals to go along with his point total.
Herenda's postgame quotes - "Princeton played Princeton basketball in the first half and we did not have any answers. They played like juniors and seniors and we played like we started three freshmen and we did. I've been watching Cannady on tape and he has been playing just like that – he is really, really good and all of their players just fed off of him."
"Anyone that follows us knows that we never stop playing and competing -- and our comeback was ferocious -- but you cannot dig that big of a hole and expect to come back and win. I give our players a ton of credit for the second half but we have to own the first half as well."
The Peacocks: Wednesday marks the 2017-18 home opener for the Peacocks, who enter the contest with a 2-3 record with victories over Sacred Heart (70-61) and at Lafayette (86-82). In the win over Lafayette on Sunday, Nick Griffin poured in a career-high 37 points, leading the Peacocks to the victory. Griffin, who's a graduate student at SPU, was named Preseason All-MAAC Third Team, while the Peacocks were picked to finish eighth in the conference. Last season, the team finished with a 23-13 record and one the CollegeInsider.com Tournament but this year's squad returns just two starters and five letterwinners.

Give Us That: Featuring one of the program's most adept stealsman in

Turn it Over: The Knights nabbed a program-record 19 steals in the win against Kean and forced 31 turnovers. Junior guard

Dish it Out: In the lopsided win over FDU-Florham on 11/15, the Knights totaled 27 assists. That total is the most in a game since the team dished out 28 helpers in a 122-115 overtime loss to LIU Brooklyn back on February 23, 2002.
Darnell's Delight: In a career-high 39 minutes against Holy Cross, Edge poured in a career-best 23 points as the Knights topped the Patriot League's Crusaders. Now in his first season as a regular starter, Edge is averaging 14.8 ppg.
