Women's Soccer Falls in Double Overtime at Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team tied Robert Morris late in the second half, but were unable to hold off the Colonials in double overtime and fell 2-1 on Friday afternoon.

"We did not come prepared to play today. We just felt [RMU] was not going to compete today," said head coach Eric Teepe. "We turned the ball recklessly and we not committed to going to goal."

Teepe added, "We were not ready to play anyone today. We allowed RMU to dictate the game and that cannot happen." We threw away a great opportunity today to take control."

Jane Schleicher scored in the 107th minute to give Robert Morris (4-11, 2-4 NEC) the win. The goal was Schleicher's sixth of the season. Maleha Kureishy provided the assist as she found Schleicher on a through ball that put Schleicher in from inside the 18.

The Colonials had the better of chances in the overtime periods leading up to the winning goal. Robert Morris had four opportunities before Schleicher got one past Amanda Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald made a save diving to her right in the 102nd minute to keep the game going and made two other stops in the first overtime period. The sophomore goalkeeper finished the day with four saves.

Fairleigh Dickinson (6-8-2, 4-1 NEC) tied the game through Elma Kolenovic's header in the 83rd minute. The junior fought through a crowd to get on the end of a Jessi Reinhardt service in the box to make it 1-1. The goal was Kolenovic's seventh of the season, which is a new single-season best for the New York native. Reinhardt's assist was her sixth of the season.

Robert Morris struck first in the 53rd minute when Kristina Kelley tallied her seventh of the season with a shot in the upper right of the net and past Fitzgerald.

After the game was tied, the Knights had a pair of chances to win it in regulation. Dara Battistoni put a shot just wide in the 84th minute, and Kolenovic made a bid in the 86th minute but was turned away by Sydney Bruckner in the Robert Morris goal in the 87th minute.

Teepe finished by saying, "We spoke about capitalizing on opportunities all week, and we still let it happen in not taking advantage of those chances to take control of the conference race."

The Knights return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Saint Francis U.
