Knights Down Saint Peter's to Earn First Win

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team won its first match of the season with a 3-0 sweep of Saint Peter's on Wednesday evening.

The Knights immediately dominated, winning the first set 25-13 and the second set 25-18. Despite Saint Peter's taking a lead in the third set, the Knights fought back to take it 25-18 and win the match.

The first set was close to begin with before the Knights started to pull away. After tying things up 6-6, Fairleigh Dickinson went on to outscore Saint Peter's 10-4 to take a 17-10 lead. An Erika Sullivan (Elk Grove, Calif./Pleasant Grove) kill set things in motion again for the Knights, who went on a 3-1 run to win the first set.

The Knights took a quick lead in the second set, outscoring Saint Peter's 6-1, which included two kills from Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont). Saint Peter's pulled within two points – 11-9 – but the Knights ended the Peahen's momentum on a Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) block. Saint Peter's came within three points of the Knights, 21-18, on a Caitlinn Williams service ace. That would be the closest they would come however, as the Knights scored three points in a row to end the set with a win.

The third set proved to be the most challenging for the Knights, who fell behind as many as seven. Saint Peter's build up a 13-6 lead before the Knights started closing the gap, starting with a Rebecca Sabol (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) kill. Laton added a service ace to give the Knights some more momentum and they eventually tied things at 16 off an Emma Liller (Germantown, Md./Northwest ) kill. The set was tied again at 17 before the Knights went on an 8-1 run to win the set and the match.

Wycoff led the Knights with ten kills while Reyes and Sabol both had seven kills in the win. Reyes also added four blocks for the Knights. Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) had 15 digs and Kirstin Trabert (Corona, Calif./Norco) added 13 digs and 21 assists.

Fairleigh Dickinson hit .225 compared to Saint Peter's .035 clip.

The Knights are back in action this weekend with two home matches. On Saturday, Fairleigh Dickinson hosts Robert Morris and on Sunday the Knights face Saint Francis U. Both contests are set to start at 1 p.m. Saturday's match against Robert Morris will also be streamed live on NECFrontRow.com.
