HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team dropped a Northeast Conference matchup, 3-0, to defending championships Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights fell in three sets to the Colonials: 25-15, 25-17 and 25-17.
The first set started out close and was tied, 3-3, before the Colonials started to open up a lead over the Knights. Robert Morris went on a 7-0 run to take a 9-3 lead. Fairleigh Dickinson closed the gap to 14-10 after scoring four straight points. Robert Morris went on another run to break open a 24-14 lead. The Knights grabbed another point on a
Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) kill but the Colonials benefitted from a bad Knights' set to win it.
Fairleigh Dickinson took a quick lead in the second set, but the Colonials tied things up, 6-6. From there, Robert Morris started to build a lead, going on to score eight more points in a row for a 14-6 advantage. The Knights battled, closing the gap to six points but Robert Morris continued to put points up, ending the set with a 25-17 win.
Fairleigh Dickinson showed its fight in the third set. The Knights fell behind 7-2 after a 7-0 Colonial run. After trailing by double-digits several times, the Knights cut the lead down to 9 points.
Robert Morris eventually built up a 24-14 lead, for a match point. The ever-relentless Knights rallied to score three points to hold off the Colonials. Robert Morris eventually took the set and the match on a kill from Taylor Lord.
Wyckoff led the Knights with eight kills on the day while
Rebecca Sabol (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) added seven.
Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) had 11 digs and
Kirstin Trabert (Corona, Calif./Norco) added 14 assists.
Robert Morris hit .279 compared to the Knights' .117.
Fairleigh Dickinson is back in action tomorrow, at home, against Saint Francis U. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
