Inaugural Dennis Sasso Alumni Baseball Game Set for October 8

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team has announced that its annual alumni game will now be dedicated to Knights hall of famer Dennis Sasso.

The winner of this year's alumni game, which is set for Saturday, October 8, will receive the first-ever Dennis Sasso Alumni Trophy.

The all-time winningest coach in program history, Sasso piled up 340 career victories during his 19-year tenure at the helm of the Knights' baseball program. His number 13 jersey is still the only jersey to be retired in the program's 65-year history.

Sasso guided his teams to three consecutive conference championships from 1986-88 and back-to-back ECAC Tournament appearances in 1987 and 1988. In 1993, his team set a new program record with 28 wins, capturing a NEC regular season title.

The Knights followed up with 26 wins in 1994, sharing another NEC regular season crown. Sasso's teams went on to win another NEC regular season title in 1997 and a north division championship in 1999. He was a three-time NEC Coach of the Year, earning the award in 1988, 1993 and 1996, while also being named New Jersey Coach of the Year in 1988.

A lifetime educator and motivator, Sasso sent over 20 players into professional baseball careers and hundreds into the business world.
