HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth broke through in a scoreless game in the 60th minute to get past Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday afternoon, 1-0.
Charlotte Esty's tally was the game-winner and her third of the season. Remy Borinsky and Brittany Champagne were credited with the assists.
"I thought that was our best game of the season," said head coach
Eric Teepe. "We did a good job defensively. We created a lot of good chances. We made one or two mistakes in the back and we got punished for them. We are getting closer to where we want to be but at the end of the day we have to get the result."
Fairleigh Dickinson (1-5) was held to one shot after the goal, which came from
Elma Kolenovic (Manhattan, N.Y./NYC Lab) in the 83rd minute that was stopped by Casey Cousineau in the Dartmouth (4-2) goal.
The Knights did have a couple chances early in the second half when the game was still scoreless.
Jessi Reinhardt (Friedberg, Germany/Burggymansium)'s shot went wide in the 54th minute and a shot from
Meghan Griffin (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) was stopped by Cousineau in the 56th.
The two teams played a quiet first half where they combined for five shots and only one was on target – a shot from Reinhardt in the 11
th minute.
The Knights did have one corner kick in the opening 45 minutes – in the 25th minute – but it was cleared by the Big Green defense.
Amanda Fitzgerald (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) recorded four saves on the afternoon. Cousineau made three stops to earn her fourth win of the season.
Fairleigh Dickinson returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Hofstra for a 7 p.m. match against the Pride.
