TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team swept a doubleheader on Sunday to claim a series victory over Central Connecticut. The Knights (24-24, 14-13 NEC) won 3-2 and 2-1 to move ahead of the Blue Devils (19-27, 11-13 NEC) in the Northeast Conference standings. FDU will wrap-up its regular season with a four-game series against LIU Brooklyn this coming weekend.
GAME ONE
FDU earned a 3-2 victory behind a solid pitching performance from redshirt junior
Logan Frati (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor).
Senior
Dylan Sprague (Brunswick, N.Y./Averill Park) was hit by a pitch to leadoff the first and with two outs redshirt junior
Ryan Brennan (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville) laced a RBI single up the middle to score FDU's first run of the game.
The Knights added two runs in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by senior
Joel Roman (East Hartford, Conn./East Hartford) and another on a CCSU throwing error.
Frati pitched his fifth complete game of the season to pick up his seventh win of the year. Frati allowed a single run in the fourth and a single run in the seventh.
He pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on four hits and four walks. He struck out two. Frati is now 7-1 on the season.
The Knights had four hits in the game with Brennan collecting two of the team's hits.
GAME TWO
Freshman
Corey Zeller (Carroll, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) pitched 7.2 quality innings to pick up his fifth win of the season in a 2-1 FDU victory. He limited the Blue Devils to one run on five hits and one walk. He also struck out five and induced 12 ground outs.
The only run Zeller allowed came in the third inning as he surrendered a leadoff double and a sacrifice fly two batters later to score the run.
The Knights scored once in the first on a CCSU throwing error following a bunt single by junior
Matt McCann (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro ).
Then in the fourth inning, with the game tied 1-1, senior
Joel Roman (East Hartford, Conn./East Hartford) drove in FDU's second run with a single to right.
Two runs was all FDU needed as Zeller went 7.2 before giving way to freshman
Evan Layne (Brooklyn, N.Y./Telecommunications) who entered the game and worked out of an eighth inning jam. Layne also retired the first batter of the ninth inning before giving way to Sprague who recorded the final two outs to pick up his first save of the season.
Offensively, McCann went two-for-four at the plate and Sprague, Brennan, Roman and sophomore
Jason Fatzinger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) all had hits.

The victories move the Knights into sole possession of third place in the NEC with two weekends remaining in the regular season. FDU finishes regular season action with a four game series against LIU Brooklyn May 13-15. The Knights are off on the regular season's final weekend.
