Bobby Romano (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan ) hit a ninth-inning home run and
Shane Siebler (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI for Fairleigh Dickinson as the Knights picked up the road win over Lafayette, 7-6, on Tuesday afternoon.
Romano's home run -- second of the season -- broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the ninth on the first pitch of the inning from Connor McMahon.
Siebler's home run -- first of the season -- came in the top of the third inning with Fairleigh Dickinson (2-6) down 2-0 after two first inning runs from Lafayette. The senior knocked in three of his four RBI with the blast that gave the Knights a 3-2 lead.
The Leopards tied the score at three in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI ground out.
The Knights scored one in the sixth, when
Dylan Sprague (Brunswick, N.Y./Averill Park) singled through the right side to score
Ryan Brennan (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville), who singled to left then stole second to get into scoring position. Siebler's fourth RBI scored Romano in the seventh to give Fairleigh Dickinson a 5-3 lead.
Matt McCann (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro ) scored from second on a Leopard miscue, which made it 6-3 Knights.
Lafayette came right back again with two in the bottom half of the seventh. Michael Coniglio doubled in a run and the Leopards added another run on a fielder's choice it cut it to 6-5 Knights after seven.
Steven Cohen tied the game at six for Lafayette in the bottom eighth with a solo home run.
Joe Flack (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) got the start for the Knights and pitched six innings and gave up three earned runs on four hits and struck out five.
Tim Quinn (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) (1-0) picks up the win for the Knights and
Ryan Brennan (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville) gets the save (1).
Fairleigh Dickinson returns to the diamond tomorrow at the Naomi Family Baseball Complex when they host the Red Storm of St. John's at 3 p.m. in the home opener for the 2016 season.
